Filetfabrikken continue to grow with the I-Cut 130 PortionCutter

A single machine can pull together an entire salmon processing line.

Sometimes it is more than the machine that makes a portioning line great. JBT Marel’s full offering of hardware, software, and service are helping processor Filetfabrikken bring Norwegian salmon to the global market.

Filetfabrikken in Norway, bought their first salmon filleting line in 2023 from JBT Marel. As the business has grown, so have Filetfabrikken’s needs, and at Seafood Expo Global 2026 in Barcelona, they signed the contract for a new I-Cut 130 PortionCutter with TrimSort, SpeedSort and integrated JBT Marel Software, AXIN I-Cut Solution. Installation in August will ensure the addition to the line is ready to deliver the clean cuts and premium portions Filetfabrikken are known for, in time for the busy Christmas season.

Integrated automation

Each solution seamlessly integrates to streamline operations while delivering greater control over product quality and production performance. The I-Cut 130 maximizes raw material utilization, ensuring consistent portions that meet order specifications. Automated trim sorting provided by TrimSort contributes to a cleaner production flow, and following portioning, SpeedSort identifies and sorts portions with minimal manual intervention, and no interruption to production. This level of automation in trimming and sorting frees valuable labor to be repurposed to higher value tasks. 

We decided that the I-Cut 130 was the correct fit for us, being a well-proven machine with solid references to a competitive price. The HMI offers an intuitive interface between operator and machine, ensuring maximum yield and uptime.

Adding a digital advantage

Filetfabrikken added a powerful digital advantage to its new portioning operation by integrating JBT Marel Software. The AXIN I-Cut Solution enables remote programming and management of the I-Cut 130. Data is continuously collected to provide real-time monitoring and historic performance analysis of the I-Cut 130 operation. Through live dashboards and reporting tools, operators and managers can track production results as they happen, quickly identifying deviations. With visibility into daily operations and long-term trends, Filetfabrikken has the insight needed to make informed decisions that improve yield and efficiency.

I-Cut 130 flexibility built-in

The I-Cut 130 cuts fixed weight and fixed length portions of filleted salmon. Cut patterns are flexible and ensure accuracy and yield of valuable raw material is optimized. The I-Cut 130 easily integrates with the other JBT Marel equipment that makes up Filetfabrikken’s salmon filleting line. When working together, the line improves cutting and batching processes, ensuring end products meet the high standards needed by Filetfabrikken’s foodservice and retail customers worldwide.

The service and support teams are important factors in our decision making. We have experienced, through a few years with JBT Marel now, that they are seriously focusing on this aspect of the business. They have a good team of people in the correct positions with knowledge of the machines. Their spare parts coordinators are doing an excellent job as well, ensuring that we have the right parts to keep the machines running.
